Comedy Works Installs Epson Mobilink(TM) POS Printers LONG BEACH, Calif., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Epson, a leading supplier of value-added Point of Sale (POS) solutions, announced that Comedy Works, a leading national stand-up comedy venue, installed its Mobilink wireless POS printer to maximize food and beverage sales and waitstaff productivity.
Comedy Works' staff began using the Mobilink printers in mid-March 2005 to serve full-capacity nightly audiences of more than 300. Designed to work seamlessly with industry-standard hardware and software components, Mobilink provides plug-and-play performance with Comedy Works' Symbol PPT 8800 handheld computers and Digital Dining's POS application software. Since the adoption of Mobilink four weeks ago, Comedy Works has experienced measurable improvements in customer service and increased food and beverage sales.
"We have a very short window of time to serve customers and capture revenue," said Wende Curtis, Comedy Works owner. "We are constantly looking for innovation to help us speed up our process. Since we installed the Epson mobile printers, our waitstaff is more readily available and that has absolutely increased sales." Designed to provide retailers and restaurants with uninterrupted wireless printing for a full shift without recharging, Mobilink's industry-leading 10-hour battery life was a significant benefit for Comedy Works. "Our three-show Saturday nights end up totaling an 8 1/2-hour shift. This was a big factor in our decision," said Curtis. "Ten hours is perfect -- we can almost do four shows!"
An initial concern about adopting Mobilink was how quickly the waitstaff would embrace the new technology. "There was a tremendous amount of trepidation with using handheld technology. We've only had a POS system for four years, and my wait and bar staff have been here for 12-19 years," said Curtis. "A lot of us haven't necessarily embraced technology, but the Mobilink printers are so simple, it was a no-brainer. They all picked up on it quickly -- no exceptions." The Comedy Works waitstaff attaches the Mobilink printer onto their belts for convenient carrying and easy access.
"With Mobilink, we've combined all the features of Epson's best-selling TM-T88 thermal POS printer with industry-standard wireless cards, security protocols and drivers -- so that Mobilink is instantly compatible with retailers' existing applications," said Bud Weist, vice president of sales and marketing, Epson System Device Group. "Because it incorporates proven thermal printing technology, it offers retailers the highest reliability and lowest maintenance costs of any wireless printer they can use today."
