ROBOT: ENHANCED SOURCE CODE SEARCH ENGINE ROBOT: ENHANCED SOURCE CODE SEARCH ENGINE
Locate, Analyze and Edit Source Code Quickly, Easily and Accurately
Productive Software Systems, Inc. announced the release of version 3.0 of its Robot source code search engine. Robot is a source code and text cross-referencing tool that differs from other string-searching tools by maintaining a database of specific references within text and source code files. It provides fast on-line inquiry to those references and the files that contain them. Users can specify how references or items are constructed by the Robot parsing utility for each language processed. By reprocessing only modified files, Robot minimizes processing time while maintaining a complete, up-to-date, index of references.
Inquiry searches to the Robot database can be accomplished through three different interfaces: command-line, ASCII terminal and X Windows. Searches of the stored file references are created using Boolean-like connectors allowing as many items or item patterns as needed to be included. The resulting list of files containing the searched items can be viewed directly, showing each reference as it occurs in the actual file. If desired, files can be immediately edited using any available editor, which makes customizing applications an extremely fast and simple process.
Robot provides support for many third and fourth generation languages and report writers whose source files are stored as text files: C, C++, Cobol, Oracle, Fortan, RPG, Pascal, SQL. Robot is currently supported on HP-UX and will soon be released for Solaris.
Robot is a source code solution designed to make not only searching, but also editing code a quick, simple and highly effective process. It is a powerful tool that helps IT better understand, translate, and execute change. Robot helps you analyze the impact of changes instantly and accurately, which drastically reduces software maintenance costs. Our goal is to give you the competitive advantage and make your IT department more productive and efficient.
