Etex Offers Triple Play via Fiber to the Home to Rural Texas over Brocade IP Network
SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Brocade (

Alert
) (Nasdaq:BRCD) today announced that Etex, a subsidiary of Etex Telephone Cooperative, has deployed high-speed data, voice and high-definition video services to its consumer and business customers over a Brocade IP network. The network and services are much more advanced than those found in many major metropolitan areas, providing fiber to the home (FTTH) access for advanced converged services, at very low prices.
Key Information - Video - Etexhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJhOSgR_MQs Etex Key Facts:
http://www.Etex.net/company/
Etex Telephone Cooperative boasts a service territory of 710 square miles of rural East Texas.
Customers within this service area are given the opportunity to purchase local, long distance, cellular and Internet (dial-up and DSL) service at rates comparable to those found in urban areas nationwide.
Etex Communications, L.P. was formed in 1989. The company is a subsidiary of Etex Telephone Cooperative which was formed in 1952 to meet the communications needs of people living in rural northeast Texas.
Etex has grown from the original 743 members into a company that provides service to 17,451 total customers.
Customers' transport is a combination of approximately 80 percent copper, 20 percent fiber to the home The company's rich heritage and continued desire to bring the very best communications service and technology to subscribers is evidenced by the evolution of the network from open wire strung along fence posts and outhouses to the digital fiber optic network in place today.
Brocade Solution Etex deployed the Brocade NetIron MLX 10 gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) routers and FastIron SuperX switches to support development and delivery of advanced triple-play (data, voice and video) applications to its consumer and business customers.
The Brocade NetIron MLX Series of routers is designed to meet these requirements and more. Built with state-of-the-art, fifth-generation, network-processor-based architecture and Terabit-scale switch fabrics, the NetIron MLX routers offer network planners a rich set of high-performance IPv4, IPv6, MPLS, and Multi-VRF capabilities as well as advanced Layer 2 switching capabilities.
The Brocade FastIron SuperX Layer2/ 3 switches provide a superior scalable foundation for better operational efficiency and faster response to business opportunities today and as the business evolves.
The FastIron SuperX extends control from the network edge to the backbone with intelligent network services, including superior Quality of Service (QoS), high performance, advanced security, comprehensive management, and integrated resiliency. Additionally, the FastIron SuperX offers compatibility in a common operating system, and a shared interface and power supply modules reduce the cost of ownership by minimizing operational overhead thus improving return on investment (ROI).
Business Benefit Consolidation of data, voice and video on a Brocade switching and routing network greatly lowers costs and eases deployment and management of advanced triple play services. Advanced intelligence in Brocade IP devices make it possible to deliver advanced services to consumer and business customer over an advanced FTTH, or, in the case of business customers, fiber to the premise (FTTP) network. Delivery of similar services previously required deployment and management of a variety of service-specific (Internet, telephone, television) networks by a variety of providers. High port density and low-per-port pricing in Brocade IP network equipment ensures that Etex is able to maximize its "revenue footprint," by delivering more and better services with equipment that uses less space and power than competing solutions.
Quotes "We were able to develop a relationship with Brocade, where we would actually have their ear when we had a problem, need support or anything else," said Matt Faggione, Etex. "We couldn't get a call back from some of the others. We consider ourselves to have strong customer support and we look for other companies that actually want to support us, because at the end of the day, that's the business we're in. Stability and cost were also driving factors. We could not find a better quality product at any price." "Etex is an innovative provider with better business and consumer service portfolios in a rural area than we get in the major metro areas like even San Jose," said Ken Cheng, vice president and general manager, IP products division, Brocade. "We are extremely pleased that they selected us as a partner in building their advanced service delivery network, and look forward to continuing to grow with them."
