The All-Packet Mobile Backhaul Solution from BTI Systems is aimed at helping fiber network operators outfit wireless companies like AT&T and Verizon (News
- Alert) Wireless with wireless backhaul offerings that allow the migration from today’s 2G and 3G networks to new 4G infrastructure in a way that is scalable, offers widespread visibility, and enables the delivery of service level agreements.
JC Fahmy, vice president of product management at BTI Systems, says that given his company has been working with fiber-rich providers to deliver mobile backhaul solutions for several years now, it has a deep appreciation for their requirement to deliver SLAs to the wireless service providers. The BTI Systems All-Packet Mobile Backhaul Solution helps enable just that, he says, by offering visibility from the cell tower to the MSC (News - Alert) in the core of the network.
BTI Systems leverages the Y.1731 spec to provide that end-to-end visibility, enabling wireless backhaul service providers to do the monitoring required to deliver on SLAs. The support of Y.1731 also means that service providers no longer have to bookend NIDs at the headend, which can result in significant capex savings, Fahmy says.
The new solution also supports G.8032, which allows Ethernet networks to deliver the 50-millisecond resiliency to which service providers have become accustomed with SONET.
Adding to the resiliency theme, the BTI Systems All-Packet Mobile Backhaul Solution also includes carrier Ethernet cards that can run as a virtual switch for redundancy.
Of course, the new solution also allows for T1/E1 connectivity and includes multi-clock synchronization throughout the network.
The All-Packet Mobile Backhaul Solution is available today. Fahmy says it is currently in customer trials, but declined to provide user names or pricing for the solution. Customers with existing mobile backhaul solutions from BTI Systems can move to the new product with just a software upgrade, he says.
As for BTI Systems new partnership with DragonWave, the former will resell the latter’s Fusion portfolio of circuit-over-packet and multi-service access products in an effort to support its customers’ migration from 2G and 3G networks to 4G.
