Exalt Debuts New Non-Traditional Licensed Band Microwave Systems

Exalt (News - Alert) Communications, a provider of microwave backhaul systems, announced that its newly released non-traditional licensed band microwave systems are capable of enabling  mobile operators and service providers overcome spectrum saturation in the commonly used long-haul and short-haul licensed bands.

The newly available bands including 6/7 and 12/13 BAS/CARS bands, 28 GHz LMDS, and the 42 GHz band are now available in parts of Europe. Exalt claimed that its portfolio includes radio systems that operate in worldwide frequency bands ranging from 2 to 43 GHz.

Frequency coverage includes popular FCC and ITU/ETSI (News - Alert) licensed bands, license-exempt 2.4, 5, and 24 GHz bands, and government use bands such as 4.5 GHz and the 4.9 GHz public safety band. Exalt also supports non-traditional frequencies such as 24 GHz DEMS and 28 – 31 GHz LMDS. As regulatory authorities release new spectrum bands for licensing, Exalt will support those bands as well.

The new all-indoor Gigabit Ethernet systems in the 6/7 and 12/13 GHz BAS/CARS bands, based on the Exalt EX and ExploreAir platforms are designed to cater to the demands of network operators with long- haul, high capacity transport requirements.

The company added that its ExploreAir microwave backhaul platform tackles diverse network needs with systems that deliver the industry’s highest per carrier throughput in the smallest form factor with the lowest sparing costs. The new 28 and 42 GHz bands are based on this platform and they feature an ultra-compact, all-outdoor, zero-footprint design and can be installed over light poles and building facades in dense urban environments, two of the most common deployment scenarios for small cells.

Officials with the company claimed that the successful evolution from today's macro-centric network architecture to tomorrow's heterogeneous network architecture mandates that network operators have a wealth of options from which to choose in technology, systems, topologies, and spectrum.

These newest Exalt systems, which help alleviate the congestion in backhaul spectrum by taking advantage of newly-released and underutilized spectrum, are the latest proof points of our commitment to deliver more options and more answers to customers as they continue to grow and evolve their networks.

In other news, supporting speeds of 400 Mbps to 7 Gbps, PDH, SDH and SONET in all configurations, Exalt Communications recently unveiled ExtremeAir, an ultra-high capacity, multi-carrier hybrid architecture.
